Artist's statement /CV

I became fascinated by glass in the final year of my Degree. Frustrated that I’d only discovered my interest towards the end of my study, yet driven by intrigue, I purchased a small potters kiln and set about teaching myself the method of fused glass. The following years presented me with a series of futile disasters, wonderful discoveries and thankfully, some welcome rewards.

My technique and style continues to evolve. Recent work is inspired by nature and it's atmospheric surroundings, I aim to emulate those sensory perceptions and auras within my designs.

The ethereal qualities of glass allow the layering of image, creating depth and texture. Using clear float glass, and semi precious metals enable an organic flow during the firing process (this being an important element to my design.) I consider my kiln, which generates it’s own atmosphere when firing, (oxidizing, reducing and fusing) to have the ultimate say on the finished piece.
